Village Hall launches Appeal

Following the creation of the Michaelston-y-Fedw Village Hall CIO and purchase of the Village Hall from Newport Council (see below), over the next few years the Village Hall will require essential works to ensure it remains the essential community resource it has become.

These works include:

The total amount required for these projects is expected to exceed £70,000.

Usually funds to cover the cost of maintaining the Village Hall are raised with events such as quizzes, shows, pantomimes, etc. However, these events only cover general maintenance and would not be able to raise the funds required for these projects.

Therefore, the Village Hall Committee has launched an Appeal in order to raise these much-needed funds, and would be extremely grateful for any donations to help raise the £70,000+ it needs.

If you would like to donate please go to our donations page at www.m-y-f.com/donate

Village Hall becomes a CIO and buys Village Hall

The Michaelston-y-Fedw Village Hall has been leased out to the community by Newport Council for over 50 years, managed by a Committee made up of local volunteers.

In that time the Village Hall has been the hub of the village hosting many events such as children's tea partys, village fetes, talent shows, quizzes, etc. It has also been home to many community groups such as The Women's Institute and Young Farmers, and well-used by the local community for wedding receptions, birthday parties, harvest festivals and numerous other activites linked to St. Michael's Church alongside it.

In 2019 the opportunity arose for the management committee to purchase the hall with a covenant ensuring it remains as a village hall.

The committee recently established a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) to manage the hall going forward and, through a generous donation from MyFi, the charitable organisation established by locals to provide high-speed broadband to the village, the hall has now been purchased from Newport Council.

The three Trustees tasked with managing the CIO are Gareth Davies, Louise Cohen and Christopher Walford.
