Michaelston Goes Eurovision

April 2006

For 2006 Michaelston-y-Fedw's annual talent show was called 'Eurotrash', a local take on the Eurovision Song Contest. The acts on offer, though, did not live up to the show's title as they were all great entertainment.

The Acts

Like Eurovision, the acts represented different countries and the audience did the voting. The line up consisted of:

  • England - Kevin Eade
  • France - Steve Tyler
  • Wales - Julie Taylor
  • Italy - Nick Palit
  • Iceland - Diz Rockwell
  • Turkey - Rob Taylor
  • Ireland - Anita Smith
  • Spain - Wendy Cutlan and Sue DB
  • Germany - Tracy Tyler
  • Scotland - Suzanne Bowen
  • British Overseas Forces (Special Category) - Gareth Davies and Lofty

In addition this year, for the first time, some of the younger villagers were invited to take part and five of them got together as the Spice Girls, spicing up the evening. Of course, they were allowed to have any vote for fear of winning each night and showing up the old 'uns.

The winner on both nights was Anita Smith (Ireland) who performed the Corrs hit, Breathless.
